Established in 2006 the United Nations Human Rights Council is one of the most important intergovernmental bodies within the UN, in efforts to protect mote and promote the human rights of all individuals globally. Conducts research and appoints special experts who work on monitoring specific human rights violations across the world. To hold those who have violated human rights abuses accountable and to encourage international cooperation to bring about peace and justice for all vulnerable people groups. This Council is tasked with raising awareness at the international level of two very potent and complex issues.

With conventional media taking a different shape in the modern world, it seems to be like anyone can be a journalist by recording and documenting what is happening right from their mobile devices. Yet, there are some countries that don’t allow for the free publication of information, or reporting on issues and crises that are happening around the world. Those especially vulnerable are journalists and media staff who risk their lives to keep the world informed. Especially in a time when truth and information are critical to bring about stability and world peace. How can the UN intervene and help the safe continuity of journalism globally?

Organized Religion has existed since the start of human civilization, with estimates now exceeding over 4,000 religions worldwide and approximately 85% of all humanity identifying with some type of religious group. However, religious diversity doesn’t always translate to religious tolerance. With some groups being targeted and persecuted for their faith or lack thereof. Respect is fundamental to bring about proper cohabitation of all these different people groups. So how can the world become more united despite religious disparities and can the UN aid in bringing different people groups together.
