The Algerian War for Independence is officially recognized as a fierce and bloody endeavor of eight years that took place in the mid-twentieth century. However, the roots of Algerian nationalism go much deeper than the bombings of French military and police targets in 1954. Situated upon the foundation of decades of settler colonialism, two world wars, and seemingly endless oppression of indigenous peoples, the people of Algeria demand justice. The violence and repressive policies placed upon indigenous and Muslim Algerian populations have escalated and France has certainly not made good on its promise of an independent and self-determined Algeria. In this committee, you must decide on the future of Algeria as both a people and a nation. Negotiations will occur not just between France and Algerian leaders, but also between key groups ranging from the Front de Liberation Nationale (FLN), Amazigh advocates, and French Algerians. Can a peaceful resolution be reached? Or will the hooks of vengeance sink deeper and deeper into the people, basking the flame of bloodshed until it reaches an unstoppable inferno?
